My god, I didn't realize I had been struggling to upgrade to the paperless portion of my Brother MFC-L8850CDW combo printer/scanner for the last few years. even a duplex scan, and hey, even a valid size scan. It can also get stuck all the time or give bugs all the time and just annoy you if you try to use it for more than an hour. I finally got fed up with it and realized that it should be something better. I've looked at several options from various big names, with the exception of Brother because I'm so mad at their junk products. I almost chose the Raven product because it seemed very interesting with its connectivity options, since sometimes they would be useful. The native side of the Raven scanner is that you must use the Pro model to get Direct Connect TWAIN driver support and although it has a network connection it cannot function as a network scanner except for the ability to scan scanned images place an SMB share. (Windows file server/NAS device). The only nice thing about my Brother printer is that my Mac can use it to scan over the network. Anyway, since this was my first experience with dedicated document scanning, I decided I wasn't ready to let the price get anywhere near the $1,000 mark, and most network scanners are fast approaching that price. So my research turned to USB models from Epson, Fujitsu, etc. This seemed to me to be the best rated in terms of value for money, no glitches, reasonably good speed, reliable drivers (and drivers available for macOS). Catalina, current publication at the time of writing). I decided to give it a try and have nothing but good things to say. I installed the Epson drivers before connecting, but I intentionally didn't install the Epson scan utilities because I'm using a third-party PDFScanner program that can straighten (straighten), duplex, virtual duplex, OCR, and then to PDF can save. Everything "just worked" and this thing just tears apart stacks of documents. I realize there are faster scanners out there, but this device, coming from a junk brother MFC printer/scanner, is probably literally 10x faster even at 300dpi + color. So if that's your starting point, you'll be totally impressed when it runs. I just finished four hours of scanning and emptied my entire filing cabinet. It would be a multi-day operation to see so much paper from Brother. Anyway, happy customer.
