Decent gimbal kit for the price

Do yourself a favor and ignore YT's reviews on this product and products of this type for now. Most of these YT reviews are completely fake and designed to make money to earn, period. Almost everything I saw on YT regarding the G6 was complete nonsense. Quick pros and cons + Good stabilization at this price + Long battery life (stabilizer only) + Auto mode (pre-programmed lane mode) + Decent price if you buy a combo - Limited range as you can hold it (forget the horizontal position ) -Battery takes forever to charge / hard to get a replacement -WLAN management sucks -Mediocre battery life when powering on/charging Hero 5/6 Overall, the G6 delivers pretty good stabilization results. It's not perfect, but it's not $1,000 plus installation either. There is virtually no stabilization improvement over the G5 (which I also had). However, the G6 has fewer quirky vertical holds on certain movements compared to the G5. The G5 holds better in the horizontal position and has less bizarre movements in these positions compared to the G6. In fact, the G6 doesn't like being held horizontally at all. Across the board, the G6 is roughly on par with the G5, with neither clearly having an advantage. The G6 has vastly improved battery life over the G5 and most other similar stabilizers on the market, and this might be the key. function for some. From a practical point of view, it will be difficult to unload it in a day using only one stabilizer. When you power/charge the Hero 5/6 you can expect 2 hours of battery life. The G5 only lasted 30-45 minutes while powering/charging my Hero 5. My concern is that the G5 actually meets its requirements, while the G6 meets less than half of Feiyu's requirements for this feature. Other competing stabilizers don't even have this feature, so I don't mind. The disadvantage is in fact that if you completely drain the stabilizer battery, it takes a very, very long time to recharge it. For example 5+ hours so keep that in mind and plan ahead. I haven't found replacement batteries yet, but I will update. All modes except selfie mode work fine. Selfie doesn't really work and you can expect a future firmware update to fix that (you can exit selfie mode and come back twice with the shutter button, but if you try to switch to another mode it won't work properly). The problem is you can just put it in selfie mode and it works, but then you can't just switch back. You need to rotate the gimbal manually. The G5 didn't have this problem. I like the auto mode and it's great for cool time lapses or slow pan and tilt shots. The G6 has more in-app settings compared to the G5, which theoretically gives you more fine-tuning. WiFi, BT, general control. Wi-Fi management is complete bullshit. Don't count on this being a feature that will make you buy this stabilizer. Complete garbage. I can get it to work, but it doesn't work well and isn't reliable at all. Even if it works, the delay between input and response is sometimes a few seconds, the menu is very cumbersome and illogical. Sometimes it accepts your settings and sometimes it doesn't. Just ignore this feature and use Gopro Voice or OEM remotes. BT is fine and they just released a major app update (June 2018). This works reliably for me. The controls on the gimbal itself (for the gimbal) are also fine and as expected. The general build quality is excellent. Although the G6 is heavier on paper than the G5, the G6 actually feels a little lighter in the hand. This is mainly because the G5 needs to add that counterweight to the Hero and it becomes very heavy. The G6 is better balanced and the grip is bigger. That makes it more convenient. The G6 is splashproof, not waterproof as some sources claim. It is not splashproof when the camera is powered/charged. It's actually not that bad. It's too big for a daypack, but it packs all the gimbal accessories, two Heroes, memory cards, and maybe a few extra Gopro batteries. The G5 neoprene case is perfect for everyday use. Too bad they didn't sell it for the G6. So if you already have a perfectly working G5, there's really no need to buy a G6. The G5 is as good as the G6, it's cheaper, works with the very common 18650 batteries, is smaller overall, and has a better body for hikers, boaters, and outdoor enthusiasts. The G6 has longer battery life, feels better in the hand, and has less play when held upright (that's how you'll hold it most of the time). I'm deducting a star for the terrible horizontal performance. I love shots from the side of my boat etc and the G6 hates horizontal. For some this will not be a disadvantage. Battery life when powering on/charging the Hero could be better, but it might not be for everyone. Good general stabilizer. I recommend you get it with Prime.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
