I have tried several cheaper brands of crayons and they have impressed me the most. The pens have the thickest core I've ever tried, 3.8mm. They are creamy and work just like Prismacolors. I use them for personal drawings and objects, not coloring books. With many cheaper brands of pencils, the quality of the paper makes a big difference in the results. I was able to color on thin copier paper, card stock and heavy mixed paper without any problems. Because the core is softer, pencils wear out fairly quickly. If you have a lot of details to fill in, I recommend adding a harder pencil to the set. I use an old set of Lyra pencils and Prismacolor Vertinas for fine detail and they seem to work well. However, if you apply too thick and try to add detail on top of that, you can get in trouble due to wax buildup. Your pencil layers before adding wet media. I have no duplicates in my set and none are missing. I plan on buying a few extra sets as gifts (and unfortunately a spare set for myself because these pencils are soft and easy to use!). When you first open it, there is a smell, but it goes away. There are no problems with sharpening, but it is better to preheat the pencils with a hair dryer.
