X-Pen wire/mesh is great and CAN be used in dual configuration! The corners of the top, where one vertical "bump" meets another, have a small gap, allowing the X-Pen's side panel to pass through. But assembling the X-Pen into a large rectangle eliminates the 4x4 square and it becomes very long - 4x12, and I ran out of space. So for our second X-Pen 4x4 we removed/cut off half of the sides. So we ended up with a 4x8 case with two wire/mesh covers. I add something. The corners were pretty tight, and it was difficult (maybe, but still difficult) to attach it to the side panel. I grabbed a small saw and cut off the little bump that was sticking out and preventing the page from slipping through. Well that's great - really! (In the picture showing the complete installation, we leave it most of the time. Each top is half open and half closed.)
