Well suited for storing needlework in hard-to-reach places

Bought to store spools of thread on sloping walls in the attic. Since there is limited vertical wall space in this room - only about 4 feet tall - the traditional dowel-style coil storage rack I used doesn't fit and takes up the wall space I need for furniture. The design of these shelves allows me to mount them on a sloping wall and the bar keeps the coils from falling even if the shelves are sloping. Because they are transparent on all sides, I can set them higher and still easily find the thread colors I need. Not being very wide, I have the option of installing them in a long straight line, in multiple rows, or in any other configuration I need to avoid obstacles. I placed them in a checkerboard pattern next to the other shelves in the corner. Standard spools of thread fit on these vertical shelves and will not fall out at a 52 degree angle. Most of mine are also suitable for the supine position. Mini spools (slightly larger than a sewing machine spool but smaller than a standard spool of thread at a craft store) don't quite fit in two rows front to back, but can be offset to fit more spools on a shelf. Bobbins that are higher front to back than the depth of the shelf (e.g. longer cardboard bobbins of elastic thread or "value" bobbins of white thread) may fall out when stored upright at this angle but can be placed sideways on the shelf . and still be accessible. It's still a pretty efficient use of space. This is a great choice for people who have needed to cram a craft pad into a multipurpose or awkward space. To solve a few minor issues I had: if you end up stuck in the inside curve of the shelf with the remnants of the protective film, leave the rubbing alcohol on it for a minute and gently scrape with the edge of a credit card (not the corner) and wipe off the residue. To prevent items from ending up rolling off when using these shelves like me, buy these clear handy drawer/cabinet door bumpers (you can get them for a few dollars at hardware stores) and attach a thin strip to the edge of the shelf .
