JVC HR-XVC25U: High-quality Progressive-Scan DVD/Hi-Fi VCR Combo Review

I don't know where the bad reviews below are coming from. but I had nothing but joy with this device. I actively use the DVD player. but part of the VCR only once or so a month. However, I had absolutely no problems.

What I have now is actually the second DVD/VCR set. The first arrived damaged in the mail. However, the return policy worked great and I got a new one very quickly, which has been working great for a year. It does everything I could hope for (except multinational play) and is very good. In addition, it is quite quiet and adaptable. Like it a lot.

I've had this DVD/VCR combo for 11 months and it worked well although it was used very little on our second TV. Then a piece of plastic on the VCR's mechanism broke and the shop asked for $65 to fix it (woo, the parts were under warranty, it was all labor). I paid $140 for the Revain when it was new. Consumers should not put up with this inferior quality. I wish there were more reviews back then. I'm so disappointed in the JVC brand (J stands for JUNK!), needless to say I won't be buying any of

We loved this unit until it suddenly broke 2 weeks ago (after 11 months of use). Okay, maybe because my two year old did something with it, but we're not sure. Even if he puts something in the VCR slot (which he can) - the DVD player should still work, but it doesn't! The power mechanism flickers on and off, seems to try to initialize the VCR and then puff - the whole device dies. again and again. You don't have to try to fix such a cheap product.

I did a little research and decided on this VCR/DVD combo because of the flexibility of the DVD, but was very disappointed with the VCR component. It created all sorts of noise feedback when hitting bumps on the tape being played, sometimes recurring every few seconds. I ended up returning it and am now looking for an alternative and I rarely return things. I received this player from Revain.com a week ago. It will NOT play Disney movies (obviously they contain code that is not recognized by this JVC device). DVDs work great on other players, and all other DVDs work great on this player, including the VCD that was burned on my computer.
