there are better alternatives.

There are many restrictions on using this device. First of all, you need to filter for several weeks. There are three separate pads with different porosity. When using this device you should only use one size. You can't go from bigger to smaller. So if you use filters, they must be the same size. Then you have to wait a few days and then use the next smaller size, wait another four days and use the varnish size. I personally like bottling wine after a filtration because by filtering so many times you are essentially exposing your wine to oxidation. Also, the performance of the device may be affected by the brightener you are using. If you have used bentonite or sparkalloid, the filter may become clogged. Therefore, the brightener you use may affect this device. The only good thing about this unit is that you can bypass the filter and pour from one container to another, making stacking easier. I used a Pentek filter before getting this one which worked fine. I ordered three separate canisters from Pentek, one with a 1 micron filter, another with a 5 micron filter, and another with a 30 micron filter. So when I filter it all goes through once and I get crystal clear wine without having to wait a week to do another filter. Also, since my Pentek filters are reusable, it's more economical since I make a lot of wine. In my setup I use three Penteks, my friends only use one canister of Penteks and if you need to follow the Mini's instructions on how to filter, one Pentek should do the trick. I've been looking for videos on filtering wine with Pentek filters and above and deciding what you think is best for you. I personally prefer the Pentek method because it's more economical, you only have to do it once, the speed is the same, and it can be set to operate under vacuum.
