Coolest Fan & Cooling Product

Very happy with this item. I recently bought a Samsung EVO 970 Plus M.2 SSD and found that it gets hot (51-53Β°C) even when idle. I found this cooler with heatsink and decided to give it a try. Installed on my Lenovo T490. Now my idle temp is at least 10C cooler than before. Of course, the temperature will rise during intense read/write cycles, but the high temperatures reached are lower than before, and the temperature also seems to drop faster after the SSD processing operations are complete. As mentioned in another review, the thermal gap seal is brittle and can break, so it needs to be handled with care. I chose the thinner of the two thermal pad sizes, 0.5mm, as I wasn't sure if 0.8mm would result in adequate clearance between the heatsink and the bottom cover of my laptop. I ended up not using rubber bands because an SSD card with rubber bands no longer fits well into the motherboard connector for the drive. He didn't have Kapton tape (would have preferred) but instead used a small amount - I stress a small amount - of tape (rated at 105C) that was enough to wrap around the sides of the copper heatsink/thermal pad/SDD sandwich board at four Stand to hold the stack together. Make sure most of the copper heatsink is uncovered, so as not to affect the heatsink's heat-cooling performance. I'm pretty sure this method isn't perfect, maybe not even recommended, but it works well enough. I'm glad my hard drive temperature is lower and I don't have to worry about the temperature anymore.

Pros
  • Nano Thermal Pad
Cons
  • Skimpy Instructions
