Just thinking about the vent cap as I haven't used any other suction cup/adhesive holder. The vent holder worked really well for me. There is a quick release button on the back of the holder so you don't have to fiddle with unscrewing it if you decide to leave the holder in the car. I've never used a phone holder so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but the plastic parts are sturdy and I don't feel like it will fall apart. I just used it for a 180 mile round trip and in my car at least the air vent holder was in perfect position.
