Review on ๐Ÿ“ป Black NMO-Mounted Tram-Browning BR-140-B CB Antenna, 26.5MHzโ€“30MHz by Autumn Feudner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Antenna with excellent characteristics and looks good.

Antenna with excellent performance and good looks. The reason for giving this antenna 4 stars instead of 5 is due to an issue with using this antenna on a 5" NMO magnetic mount and the antenna pin tends to tilt to one side when the set screws are trimmed and tightened . With the MFJ magnetic mount, the lowest SWR I can get is 2.5-3:1 at the factory resonant frequency of around 26.5MHz. The problem seems to stem from the lack of a good ground with a magnetic mount. When the antenna was mounted on the roof of my 00 Silverado using a standard NMO via roof mount I was able to achieve a perfect 1:1 SWR ratio which was tested with an MFJ antenna analyzer. I then shortened the antenna stub for a perfect match to the CB CH19. Testing this antenna around town allows me to receive and transmit farther than before with a 4-foot fire baffle mounted on a truck's toolbox. The difference in performance is most likely due to the large floor space at the top of the cabin, as well as the extra height. Rising just a foot above the cockpit, the Firestik was mounted close to the cockpit. Overall the antenna looks great and works great for its intended purpose as long as you don't mount it on a magnetic NMO mount. The problem is most likely a bad ground connection to the magnet mount as I noticed a change in the SWR when changing the mount. Buy this antenna, a matching NMO mount and don't be afraid to drill a 3/4 hole to mount it properly.
