These pads do NOT absorb moisture! I bought them to put in a guinea pig cage. When a guinea pig urinates, it does not penetrate the pad. The plastic liner on the bottom keeps the urine in the pad and my guinea pig got soaked when I picked it up! I had to bathe her twice and clean her butt for 3 days! I removed the plastic wrap only to reveal a thin layer of cotton like cotton batting. As soon as I washed it, the cotton was full of lint and came off. Then I removed the cotton and what was left was a thin, leaf-like fabric! In the end I bought draining mats with a terrycloth floor in the discounter! They work wonders and wash well.
