I thought it would be worth trying to use this device when traveling through Yellowstone for some family photos . I was wrong. The first gust of wind threw the camera face down on the ground. Although the camera didn't die, it did damage the lens. This type of device is not stable enough for a DSLR even with a short lens like a 35/5mm prime lens. I ended up using a more durable bow tripod that I've had for over 20 years. Although they are heavy I have never had any problems with them. Even for use as a monopod, that wasn't enough for a telephoto zoom lens on a DSLR. It was a bad buy. I know this tripod isn't made for DSLR but I'll give it a try as I've been hiking for 5-6 hours and Bogen's weight compelled me to try. Never again. I think I could use it as a monopod or as a smaller, cheaper camera that I'm happy to sacrifice to the god of printing.
