Review on ๐ŸŽง GuliKit Route Air Bluetooth Adapter: Seamless Wireless Audio for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC - Connect AirPods, Bluetooth Speakers & Headphones by Kevin Huot

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works, but there's a 0.645 second delay that breaks it.

I bought the GuliKit Bluetooth Adapter for Nintendo Switch (full size). I wanted to use my good quality wireless earbuds to hear both channels in one ear without blocking the other ear. Please note that there is no pass-through port here, meaning you cannot use this Bluetooth adapter and charge the Switch at the same time. I play my Switch on the porch with my dogs so I'm not anywhere near the charger so it's not a problem for me but it might be a hindrance for you. This device comes in a nice plastic case with a durable foam insert for easy storage and portability. There is a USB adapter, a USB-C Bluetooth adapter, and a small case to protect the USB-C connector. The Bluetooth adapter is very small and fits the Switch very well without taking up space. It only has two buttons and two LEDs on the bottom, one for A and one for B. Holding the button puts it into pairing mode and my Apple Airpods paired without any problems. I tested it with both headphones from a different manufacturer and they both paired without any problems. Also, I only plugged in one of the headphones at a time, but when I took both out of the case they paired automatically, which is a plus. There are separate A and B channels if your headphones don't automatically talk to each other. One issue I had with the Bluetooth transmitter and my cheaper headphones was that every time I turned my switch off, I could hear an audio prompt in my headphones telling me the headphones were looking for something else to pair with . When paired with my iPhone or MacBook, they never looked for things to pair with after turning off or unplugging the device. So the Bluetooth adapter was easy to set up and use. Immediately I noticed the main downside of this product: latency. This is important and in most cases affects the user experience. I've tried timing it with a stopwatch a couple of times and it seems about 0.645 seconds late. That's over half a second, which is plenty if you're playing a game that requires you to respond to alarms or gunfire. In dialogue and cutscenes, the video moves from segment to segment before you hear what's happening. Oddly enough, I noticed this the most while typing on a keyboard in an online store. Apparently I hear the clicks as audible feedback when typing a letter more than I thought because the delay is really keeping me from typing. On the other hand, when there's background music or Japanese dialogue with subtitles, the audio lag isn't an issue. The Bluetooth adapter works great in games where there is no voice output, for example. For my money, this GulKit Bluetooth adapter can't handle that. It's easy to use and unobtrusive, but a delay of more than half a second is too much for me. I see it working great for a minority of users. I give an average rating of 2.5 stars.
