Review on ASUS VE247H Gaming Monitor 1920X1080 Backlit 23.6-inch, 76Hz, by Jeff Johnson

Great picture, good value for money

I'm a software developer, which means I need a screen I can stare at for hours and not go crazy. I've tried using HDTVs as monitors but found that most of them are either dark or blurry. I chose this Asus monitor because I like their products in general and this monitor has both VESA mount and HDMI input in addition to VGA and DVI. The monitor is well packaged and easy to install. The device was cosmetically flawless. When using a VESA mount, be aware that the back is curved, meaning you'll likely need a stand. The screw holes appear to be deeper than many VESA mounts. A nice feature is that it turns on automatically when you turn on the PC. It comes with a DVI-D cable as well as VGA. The speakers are fine for PC sound, but not for gaming or entertainment - I have tablets with much better sound. It comes with an audio cable. My first impression was very good - the display is super bright and very clear, much more comfortable to look at at arm's length. I've read numerous complaints about "reverse halos" but didn't notice at first. This is a subtle feature and is best seen when the display is slightly dimmed. Once you notice it, you'll start seeing it everywhere, which is really annoying. After reading a bit I found out how to solve this problem: 1) Press "Menu" 2) Scroll down to the image 3) Change the Trace Free value (default: 60). ) to something more desirable, such as B. 40.4) Press the "S" key to exit the menu. I have found 40 works for me. Just play with it to see the effect. The new setting appears to be saved, ie turning off the monitor does not erase it. Now I can slowly scroll lines of black text on white without squinting. This topic is often discussed on the Internet, usually as "monitor overloading". Overall I think the image is great and needs a little tweaking to make it better. This is much better for extended viewing than most HD TVs. I only gave one star because of the ghosting issue and the useless speakers. This is my second Asus VE247H monitor meaning I was pleased enough to purchase another for a dual monitor setup.
