I tested it with frozen fish fingers and frozen steak fries the first night. Both have turned out much better than baking in the oven. I think fish fingers are even better than pan frying. I didn't use any oil when I cooked them. The bottom tray doesn't cook as well as the top tray, I ended up putting all the fish on the top tray and after that was done I took the fries and put them on the top tray. Otherwise, if you don't move the food up, the bottom will be mushy, not crispy. It's important to turn the product over to make sure it's browned on all sides. Unfortunately I will most likely only use the top shelf for now. The second experiment I made was carne asada. It's raining and I didn't want to go outside and grill and carne asada needs a bit of charring to be delicious. The upper shell worked great. I used the bottom pan to cook the onions along with the food (since they shouldn't be crispy). The drain from the top shelf also helped sauté the onions underneath. My third and final meal consisted of toasting a croissant cut in half with cheese on each side. I usually eat this as a snack, but I have to turn on the oven and wait for the grill to heat up. In this case, the fryer worked perfectly, toasting the bread and cheese very quickly and more evenly. Cleaning was easy and I look forward to trying something new. It would be nice if you could order extra pots so that when you need to cook a lot of batches you can just take them out and add a new pot instead of emptying and refilling a really hot piece of metal. I'm also looking forward to using the spinning basket next time, I think it will be easier once I figure out how to install it.
