PURPOSE: Replacement for AudioTechnica ATH-m50x as the stock pads are a bit stiff, flat and warm. I use the ATH-m50x for my electric guitar at night and for listening to iPhone AAC files. CONSTRUCTION: Strong stitching. Light. Soft terry cloth on head contact surfaces. Attention: Seams are slightly wavy and uneven. Slightly warped seams are noticeable when the headphones are lying on the counter. but I guess it doesn't matter if you get hit in the ears. Overall, it looks a little sloppy to me. INSTALLATION: Less than 5 minutes total. Problem: The lip of fabric that you insert to attach the ear pads sits very tight on the speaker boxes. At times it seemed like I was tearing something (namely a thin membrane covering the speakers themselves), but it held up normally. FEATURES: Comfort 4.5 out of 5. Soft, relatively cool. Reduced pressure around the ears. You could probably wear them indefinitely without a headache or discomfort. In comparison, I can only wear the standard earpads comfortably for half an hour before they go SOUND QUALITY: FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL. COMPLETELY CHANGED THE SOUND IN THE HEADPHONES. I'm NOT a professional audio engineer but I love the ATH-m50x's sound for hard rock, pop, country and electronic dance music. These Brainwavz hybrid ear pads distort the sound, NO HEAVY CENTER BASES AND SUB BASES FROM MY MUSIC. Headphones fit my head perfectly, didn't help at all. They may be letting in too much sound pressure, or the foam pads may be absorbing too much sound energy. The goal of owning studio monitor headphones missed for me. I really want to return them but they have been worn for several hours so I'll just bite the cost. So many disappointments.
