Review on Penn Plax Aquarium Filter Desktop by Brooke Gill

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The tank is fine, it just needs some rigging.

I had to look at the capacity of this tank so it holds 2 gallons of water for reference. We bought this as an upgrade for our Ringo who was not doing well in his 1 gallon tank. The filtering here is a bit of a joke, but I think it's better than nothing. The square hole at the top lets a lot of dust particles through and the water surface always shines, even with a filter. The output current is too strong for our betta, so I turn it off during the day and back on at night. When it's on, it hides among the plants at the bottom of the tank opposite the exit, or sticks it to the wall behind the fence so it doesn't have to fight against the current. I've tried many things to reduce flow, including stuffing the outlet with a sponge and stuffing the inlet area with sponges, but nothing really worked. Although it only seems to work well for him at night. The light is exceptionally bright so we wrapped half of the LEDs in electrical tape which made it look more natural. The main reason I bought this tank (besides the price) was that the back is the perfect place to mount a small heater. I wanted a sleek, clean look that would keep the heater out of sight but still in the circulating water. I caught it when it was almost half price so can't complain. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, as is Ringo.
