This is our first DSLR so I think we are Nikon's target audience for this product. Friends and family have other (more expensive) Nikon DSLRs and we've always been impressed with everything from the image quality and ease of use to the physical aspects of the body design and build quality. When we entered the DSLR market, I was open to all high-end models and looked for one that met our minimum requirements. The D3000 met and exceeded our needs, and many of them we didn't know what to look for. I think it'll be a great introduction to the world of DSLRs, giving an insight and appreciation of some of the features it might not have, although it may take a couple of years to discover them. This model has a "Manual" feature that explains what the various settings are for and how to adjust them right on the screen. So it's like the instruction manual is built into the camera, which is very important for DSLR newbies! I'll skip the specs and arcane details and leave them to photophiles and statisticians, but suffice it to say this camera won't disappoint anyone but the advanced user, and for the price it's a worthwhile choice.
