THIS ITEM WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE 10TH GENERATION OF CIVIC. (Or any vehicle with a rear electronic parking brake). If, like me, you love to get your hands dirty and constantly modify your car or do routine maintenance, this is a MUST. Changing the rear brake on a vehicle with an electronic parking brake can be a pain, but doing this will put the EPB into service mode so you can work on your brake pads. ALSO this way you don't need those pesky tools to squeeze the rear brake pads that rotate the piston. By putting the EPB in service mode you can compress the caliper piston like Honda front pads without turning the piston clockwise anymore to compress it! Yes you can replace the rear pads without doing this but without putting the EPB in maintenance mode you can run into issues where you disable the EPB you get an error code and the only solution is to get a new rear one Caliper to buy (read Honda forums about EPB). Also, be careful with the EPB connector on the rear caliper as it is EXTREMELY brittle plastic and breaks easily, leading to EPB error codes. If you received an EPB code, first check the wiring harness connection on the rear brake caliper! I always disconnect them before loosening anything and remember to take your Honda out of EPB service mode.
