Review on πŸƒ Polar OH1+ Optical HR Sensor: Bluetooth/ANT+ Connectivity for Accurate Heart Rate Tracking by Firman Harrington

Revainrating 1 out of 5

More reliable than Apple Watch; more comfortable than a chest strap and just as accurate

Background: My Apple Watch Series 4 often doesn't register my heart rate (no reading on 4 of my last 10 runs) and sometimes reads incredibly high, over 200 bpm max and 180+ bpm on average (I'm too old and not stressing myself enough to read this). The Apple Watch is great for measuring your resting heart rate. And when I'm cycling, I don't like wearing chest straps because it's too cold on cold mornings and it often feels like they're slipping off. I bought the Polar OH1+ to use alone (without pairing) for running and paired it with my Garmin Edge 510 for cycling. two of them are different sizes in one box. 2) You may need 3 different apps: if you use it offline and download data to your phone, you need Polar Beat on your phone and a Polar Flow account on their website; If you pair it with a watch or bike computer and download data to your phone, you need Polar Flow on your phone; If you upload data to your PC using your USB dongle and not your phone or watch, you need a Polar Flow account on their website and Polar FlowSync on your PC. 3) Neither app tells you how much battery is left - you have to rely on the color of the LED and the blinking pattern. 4) It is not compatible with Apple Watch. While it was a little confusing figuring out which apps I needed, the Polar OH1+ is much more comfortable to wear, works well and is as accurate as chest straps (see https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/03/polar-oh1- plus-optical-hr-sensor-in-depth-review.html for a detailed overview).
