Review on 🌱 NLA for Her Plant Based Vegan Protein Powder - Cinnamon Scone - 20 Super Servings - Non GMO Pea Protein, Organic, Naturally Sweetened by Shawn Fuller

Revainrating 2 out of 5

▪️Good cinnamon flavor, some aftertaste ▪️Too much iron (pro-oxidant) ▪️No pesticide/purity claims

My NLA Naturals Cinnamon Scone Pea Protein Powder comes in a dark colored container, not the white one pictured now. The ingredient list appears to be the same, but the information on the nutrition label shows slight differences. This powder is labeled "unisex" and is not intended for women. Like many brands, this is a huge container, but not more than half. I've tried many herbal powders and prefer them in a smoothie over shaking with water, but this one tastes really good and performs better than just shaking with water. Cinnamon is the second ingredient and the flavor really comes into its own. It tastes slightly salty (and high in sodium) and has an aftertaste of sweetener, but none of the flavors are off-putting. I prefer to mix it in smoothies and that's how I use most powders as I'm not an athlete who takes my powder to the gym. I have oral allergy syndrome, usually from foods related to birch pollen, and it's making my throat itchy (probably something in the antioxidant mix). This powder is high in protein (25 grams) for 130 calories. Although pea protein is not a complete protein, the body stores amino acids, and the missing amino acids can be supplemented from other sources, such as whole wheat pasta, with another meal on the same day. I think I'm right about that, but I'm not vegan (although most of my diet is plant-based) and I'm not a fitness expert. This doesn't seem to be a problem for those who consume a variety of plant-based protein sources on a daily basis. ▪️WHAT I DON'T LIKE: * Iron: Contains 9.9 mg of added iron as ferrous bisglycinate chelate per scoop and the directions say to take it up to 3 times daily. According to the NIH Iron Fact Sheet dated March 22, 2021, iron recommendations are 8 mg per day for men 19 and older, 18 mg for women 19-50, and 8 mg for women over 50. Iron plays an important role in health. , but I do not take any dietary supplements unless deficient as shown by testing and as directed by my doctor. I'm not a fan of non-targeted iron supplements as needs vary and iron is a pro-oxidant that can cause cell damage, interacts with common medications (e.g. thyroid drugs), can cause constipation, etc. *Certificate of Analysis: I keep protein powders plant-based Base not considered healthy as third-party tests (disputed by the companies) have found problems with high levels of glyphosate (weed killer) and/or heavy metals in many vegetable protein powders. This pea protein isn't organic, but that might not matter, as some tests show that some organic pea powders are high in pesticides, while non-organic peas are low. More importantly, there is an ongoing issue with potentially unacceptably high levels of chemicals, so I want testing and transparency before using the supplement on a daily basis. I can't find anything about testing, pesticides, or cleanliness on the NLA website. While this may be true (I don't know), just saying that this powder is "pure" is not enough for me. Also, this NLA powder contains a blend of organic antioxidants, but I can't find any information to assess if this is enough to be helpful. I emailed and called customer service (always on line) to make a normal inquiry but the contact was unavailable. I would rate this 4 stars for taste and 1 star for the added iron and lack of transparency to a 2.5 star "not recommended". I will update as needed as more information is received.
