I've used different brands of dehumidifiers and they've all lasted 2-3 years...I use them in my basement and basement. For some reason, when I put this dehumidifier in place, the smell was much less than before, even though I set it to the same humidity level. One reason might be that this one runs much longer than others I've had (at the same humidity level)... it rarely stops, and even if it lasts for 60 seconds... but whatever the reason, the difference is noticeable. I've had it for about 3-4 weeks so can't comment on durability but we'll see. Cons: 2. Louder than my usual 70 liter dehumidifier from a popular very old brand of home humidifiers. However, the noise isn't the annoying noise of a compressor - it's a quieter noise, most often a fan.
