Review on Stanley FMHT16145 Folding Hand Tools by Jodi Tisdale

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for carpentry; not really designed for fine woodworking

This is a really well thought out design for a versatile chisel. The handle folds up to cover the blade so you can clip it to your tool belt, apron, or bag without worrying about nicks or snips. However, when you need to use it, just open it up and it's ready for both delicate and hard work. The secret lies in a very well thought out grip that is both comfortable and able to withstand strong impacts. I do not use this chisel in my carpentry workshop where I have several sets of chisels for carpentry, chiseling and carving. I suspect that's why it only comes in one size (blade is 1 inch wide). However, it really is perfect for construction and farm work and incredibly handy - I always carry it in my tool belt. The steel is of good quality and has a sharp edge, although (as with all chisels) expect to have the back flattened and the blade sharpened before use. I've had mine for about 4 years and have used it quite a bit and it's still in good condition. The only problem is that if I borrow it from a job site - you have to tell people to avoid nails (or be prepared to re-sharpen the edge!)
