The foldability of this tool is fantastic. This keeps the edge sharper and makes it more wearable in my carpenter's apron. I often had to shove tools in my pockets because I do a lot of emergency repairs at home that require crawling into hard-to-reach places. I do not cut my clothes or groom myself with this folding tool.
I was looking for a drop chisel to carry in my tool belt for those chores where I didn't want to use my more expensive chisels. I was a little skeptical about the folding mechanism, but it's solid and muscular. It's sharp out of the box, but not razor sharp, so had to be touched up. It worked great the first job I used it on. Definitely recommend.
Bought this quite a while ago but finally got a project that required a chisel so got a chance to try it out. The blade is nice and sharp, but the handle was an issue for me. When I tapped it with a hammer it wouldn't snap into place. I didn't hit hard either, just enlarged the slot to fit the new lock on the door, so I really just rapped on it. They must contain some sort of locking or latching mechanism to hold the handles together.
I would like to give more than 5 stars. This chisel will stand up to any abuse you put it through and then some. I use it as a wood chisel, chisel, cold chisel. Anything I ask of him, he does. Easy to sharpen. I also modified it by cutting off the "teeth" of one of the gears with a dremel and cutter wheel and lubricating the hinges so I can now operate it with one hand like a balisong. The only downside is that the buttons don't snap after the change, so you have to press harder. Buy this.
This is a really well thought out design for a versatile chisel. The handle folds up to cover the blade so you can clip it to your tool belt, apron, or bag without worrying about nicks or snips. However, when you need to use it, just open it up and it's ready for both delicate and hard work. The secret lies in a very well thought out grip that is both comfortable and able to withstand strong impacts. I do not use this chisel in my carpentry workshop where I have several sets of chisels for…
I do lots of useful jobs around the house and in several of my rentals. For my purposes I needed a general purpose armored chisel, high-impact, semi-compact (won't take up too much room on my tool belt (double bench grinder). After many comparison purchases, this Stanley folding chisel is the only product that meets all of my purchase needs. It was with great relief that I found out that the folding function of this chisel is NOT a gimmick. What makes this product really functional, despite its
I wasn't sure I could do it. VERY pleasantly surprised. This review is from a carpenter, not a carpenter who is probably the more common audience for this piece, so I don't have the same needs as someone who's going to be cutting massive 2x4s or 4x4s all day. However, I have used striking plates on the end of the handle. As the item description says, you can hit this thing hard without damaging the handle. It can take a few hard hits without any noticeable damage. Very impressive for a $10…
