What appeared to be a really good deal was instead an inferior metal that didn't have the softness (or malleability) to withstand repeated flexing without premature fatigue cracking. Obviously, it's some sort of aluminum alloy that's supposed to be cheap to produce. A metal strip broke in two on a face mask that I've probably used less than 10 times. The ideal solution is to use the metal edges used in most coffee bags, which are coated and can be folded many times without breaking.
