I don't know why, but many of these items mention that they are 'temporary'. I've left it in the ground for several months and there is no visible rust on it and the integrity is solid. I have a 45 lb husky and he doesn't move when pulled by the dog. I want the hand strap to be at the top of the item so I can lower it even lower into the ground. The reason for this (along with every other corkscrew like this) is that it becomes something of a nuisance to people. I also wince a little when the dog pushes past him to chase the little animal. I marked mine with a court flag (the size of a napkin).
