I actually bought this cable because my new 4K monitor, Acer ET430k, only had 2 HDMI inputs. But it also has DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort. I figured there would be a way to get another HDMI input (even 1080p would be fine) with this cable going through the mini display port on the monitor side and HDMI on the other input side. nope No signal could be received from any device. I flipped the cable by plugging it into a laptop mini display and using one of the prized two HDMI ports. Came right up. but limited to 1080p no matter what I do (and the laptop outputs 4K, I can do that with the native HDMI output). So, if you have a laptop or mac with a mini display and want to connect to a standard HDMI input (monitor/tv/projector etc) this should work. On the contrary, it absolutely does not work. I thought about returning it, but it cost about $7, so I'll just keep it to myself and throw it in my laptop bag (any chance it'll ever come in handy? Dubious).
