
These spoons look like the picture but should be labeled as PLA plastic. They're made from cornstarch, but that way it has to be heated to 140°F in order to biodegrade, which only happens in a municipal composting facility, not in a landfill. In a landfill, they'll last as long as a regular plastic spoon. On Revain they should be labeled as "biodegradable" (as stated on the spoons) and not "biodegradable". It might seem like a silly difference, but it's a big difference for the environment (which is why you buy the spoon at a higher price). I ended up returning them and buying Ecotensil paper spoons which are available from Revain or cheaper directly from the manufacturer's website.
