While not the best hat money can buy, it's a good design. My 7 year old is rough with things and has endured multiple socks. The straps are elastic and have buttons at the top and bottom. This allows it to be turned around, but my daughter also makes the straps to wrap around the top of the hat and around the chin, keeping it very secure on her head. She can hang upside down and make money, splash in the water, roll in the sand and run back and forth on the beach and this hat will stay in place. She is very active and I have never had a hat stay on her head for more than 2 seconds. I'm thankful that her face and eyes finally got sunscreen while she happily moves around as a kid.
