As a toolmaker, that can be devastating. But it's not intended for use in a machine shop making airplane parts, but for woodworking. I doubt the fence on my table saw is that close. If you honestly think you can safely drive a saw through a tree, you should disregard it. This tool is great for the DIY enthusiast or carpenter. I can recommend it without hesitation.
