Review on πŸ’» Gigabyte G27Q-SA 2560X1440P Monitor with FreeSync, HDR, and Flicker-Free Technology by Linroy Floyd

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Buzzing and unreliable joystick

In the state of delivery, the color seemed a bit lifted and oversaturated with red. This could have been tuned better, but I didn't do a full calibration to take care of it. I was also pleased with the ability to control the monitor and the image as a whole. The reason I end up returning this monitor and giving it 3 stars is twofold. First, there's a piercing buzz of its own when you turn it on. It's not loud, but it's there and it worries me. None of the other three monitors I have do this. I don't know if this is due to the entire product line or if I was just unlucky with this particular product. Another issue was the joystick controls used to turn the monitor on and off and adjust the picture. It was unreliable and didn't always work. You should be able to click it and a popup control menu will appear, but it was very successful. Sometimes I pressed the button and nothing happened. Also, you have to hold it down for a few seconds to turn it off, but that didn't always work. Sometimes it took multiple attempts to turn it on. I think part of the problem lies not only in this particular monitor but also in the design of the joystick itself. It has too many functions and maybe with a firmware update it could become a bit more responsive. But in the long run I would still consider the reliability of the "one button for everything" approach. I know you can also use the GIGABYTES downloadable program to adjust the picture, but this is not a solution to turn on the monitor.

Pros
  • The screen looks great and came in very protective packaging.
Cons
  • Read other reviews before purchasing. Mine came with over 12 dead pixels (blue ones).
