I've been using Nalgene bottles for years and love them, especially for motorcycle trips and hiking. Single-use plastic bottles are the scourge of the earth. I am trying HDPE (UVPE) after reading that it is one of the safest plastics to drink. I'm also trying a heavier 40 ounce stainless steel bottle. People say that HDPE gives the water an odour/taste, but I don't really notice anything. I'm also confused, if the plastic gives off an aroma or taste, doesn't that mean some kind of plastic chemical is getting into the water? *** To update. HDPE Nalgen bottles are more forgiving than Tritan bottles when dropped. Lost a liter of water because I dropped a bottle of Titan on rocks while hiking. The bottle is broken.
