Bought to match a suit. We went to Disney in the winter. We didn't want to wear a jacket over her princess dress so we bought it as a base layer. I suspect it would be great for Halloween costumes in colder climates. It was cute in itself so I think someone who bought it for ballet or gymnastics would be delighted. The white material was thick and didn't show through. I ordered my daughter a normal size and she fit. It was snug, but they had to be snug to the body. If your child is concerned about tight clothing, you might want to size it up. The only change I would make would be to add smaller buttons at the bottom. Young children who are potty trained or who have recently learned to use the potty have trouble getting in and out of these things. I hope that was helpful.
