It is big enough for 8 oz. a cup of tea, which I prefer anyway. The sides will get hot, but so will the sides of any other cup without a handle. And that doesn't mean I'm holding or drinking tea at 212 degrees anyway - it should take some time to steep and cool, no matter the cup I use . I put it on a stand until then. The lid fits well, which I can't tell about some of the $20 mugs I've bought. The color is excellent - a bright intense yellow that brings vibrancy to gray winter days. The only thing I would like to change is that I would like them to only offer patterns and not solid bodies. I also prefer grips, but of course I can do without them. I drink 2-4 cups of tea a day, so I like to have several cups on hand. The low price of this product makes it possible. :) Since then I also buy red and blue cups.
