These lights would work well to dress up a pergola or similar, but don't expect them to be very bright. These are night lights of 2 watts each, but together they light up quite well. Almost enough to read underneath? It's definitely enough to dangle underneath. The biggest downside is the sub-par solar panel they offer. This means that the lamps do not last very long compared to other lamps. Another good thing about this product is that they actually come with an extension cord! I have many other solar strings (of similar design) and most of them don't have extension cords so the panel needs to be a little close to the lights. It is difficult to compare the full price of this product to other similar lights with large solar panels. The reason why the size of the solar panels matters is that they 1) charge faster and 2) usually contain more batteries (mAh) so the lights last longer. Strangely, this product doesn't advertise the battery capacity, but I think it's probably somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 mAh. Other larger panels usually have a capacity of 5,000 mAh.
