I love this cake stand. I've been using a lazy Suzanne from my pantry for years, and it's nice not having to unload all the canned goods every time I want to glaze a cake, but this trivet is a bit finicky. The top is detachable so it is easy to store, but you need to be very careful when you want to move the cake on the stand. Also, the top doesn't rotate as smoothly as you'd like, and the embossed grid lines will snag with the tip of an icing spatula when trying to flatten the sides if you're using a smaller cake board. annoys. The non-slip mat is the same size as the top, so it gets in the way of the icing. I use it under the stand, which is necessary as the stand is light and will slide without it. Although I don't know why it's so big. If it is to be used on top, it will interfere with the cake frosting. Maybe I missed something. Overall, I'm glad I got it, but I wish the surface was smooth and it was clearer how to use the non-slip pad. I'd love to try aluminum but it's too expensive for the amount of cakes I make.
