Great tool but not the sharpest in the shed

This is a good lens and its weather resistance is an advantage. It covers a pretty good range, from 27mm to 205mm equivalent. But at 18 it looks extremely soft. So far I'm happy with 135. Sharp, but not the sharpest I've seen. I like manual focus and it is very good for this type of use. The focus ring is straight, not wired; it's just too short. old manual lenses rotate 180-270 degrees from focus end to focus end; This is much smaller, making critical focusing difficult. Zoom is fluid. The lens feels solid but a little stretchy after playing around with my vintage lenses, which are steel and aluminum and built like little army tanks. I will run a series of tests using resolution and color charts and then update this review. If you combine this lens with a WR camera and live in a humid climate or shoot a lot at the coast or in bad weather, this lens is probably indispensable for you. They will have to learn to live with their shortcomings. Everything in photography is a compromise.
