Excellent lens. in lenses

Excellent lens. Very sharp. Has about the same macro capabilities as the Pentax 18-55mm lens, or at least not enough of a difference to mention it. But it doesn't have extreme macro capabilities. They can get close enough to be useful. (Approximately 1 foot at 135mm.) It has a good range of working lengths. It can be used from landscapes to portraits. Wide angle for landscapes. Telephoto lens for a good compression of your portraits. The performance of the telephoto lens is also sufficient for…

Great tool but not the sharpest in the shed

This is a good lens and its weather resistance is an advantage. It covers a pretty good range, from 27mm to 205mm equivalent. But at 18 it looks extremely soft. So far I'm happy with 135. Sharp, but not the sharpest I've seen. I like manual focus and it is very good for this type of use. The focus ring is straight, not wired; it's just too short. old manual lenses rotate 180-270 degrees from focus end to focus end; This is much smaller, making critical focusing difficult. Zoom is fluid. The…

Great value, so useful

A very, very useful lens. Surprisingly 1/2 inch shorter than my already compact Pentax 16-45 f/4! This one is much more versatile with its 200mm zoom. Taken from Revain's Another Deal Site. Mentioned because unlike some of the previous posts below, this lens came packaged in a proper box, with Ricoh warranty cards, instruction manual and lens hood. Exactly as shown on the Revain page. If I were to travel, I would take this lens with me. Or as a better choice for urban shots. Revain calls it…

Jack of all trades, consummate expert

This is the Swiss army knife of Pentax lenses. If you can't take your entire tool box with you, this is what you need. It's good at almost anything - or at least good enough for the person who only takes a camera body with them. It has the longest zoom range of any weatherproof Pentax lens. So if you don't want to miss a shot but don't want to mess up your camera by swapping out WR lenses as needed depending on the weather, this is the lens to have. It's not a "macro" lens, but with my old K-5…
