Excellent lens. Very sharp. Has about the same macro capabilities as the Pentax 18-55mm lens, or at least not enough of a difference to mention it. But it doesn't have extreme macro capabilities. They can get close enough to be useful. (Approximately 1 foot at 135mm.) It has a good range of working lengths. It can be used from landscapes to portraits. Wide angle for landscapes. Telephoto lens for a good compression of your portraits. The performance of the telephoto lens is also sufficient for decent animal and nature shots or sports shots. (You'll need a longer telephoto lens for nature and sports photography, but this lens covers the highlights.) The only downside to this lens, and most zoom lenses, is that zoom lenses aren't fast lenses. . If you want a really fast lens, or a lens with a very limited depth of field, you need a prime lens. But it's a great lens to easily slide onto a Pentax DSLR for general use. It's fast enough and has a long enough focal length to use.
