My 3 year old suddenly had a huge bump on his shoe. The vet recommended cooking a donut out of the shoe. I was VERY skeptical but after 5 weeks of 24/7 wear it was almost completely gone. There's some loose skin where it was (and now he's got a winter coat so I can't really see it) but the swelling is gone. It's been over 3 months and he hasn't returned. I was amazed that after the first 5 minutes it didn't bother him at all and he didn't mind me taking it off or putting it on. (I took it off to ride.) I would recommend confining your horse to a stall. I wouldn't kick him out just in case he gets tangled in the fence or something. I wrapped it in veterinary wrap every few days and took it off and dried it when it got wet. Only used in summer. I'm not sure I would use it on my horse if it gets wet and the temperature is below freezing. I would be concerned about possible frostbite. It was surprisingly strong and held up very well. Pro tip: Don't put your head directly in front of the front knee when putting on and taking off, or your horse will knock you over when bending the knee.
