Review on Cable Matters Unidirectional DisplayPort Adapter by David Guerrero

Will not work for computer monitors with some graphics cards

I have an Nvidia 2070 Super graphics card and I wanted to set up a dual monitor system. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately since they are said to be better) the card has 3 DisplayPort slots and 1 HDMI slot. I've used an HDMI slot the entire time I've owned a computer because DisplayPort cables aren't all that common and most monitors have HDMI connectors. My first thought was to get an HDMI splitter to connect more monitors to the HDMI slot. This method doesn't work and I'm sure some of you reading this review are chuckling to yourself because I once googled why this makes sense. But don't buy an HDMI splitter. My second try was to buy this cable. Monitor and cable connected to all 3 display ports and no signal. Google the issue, and at first it looks like it might be an issue with the 2070 graphics card itself, before finally stumbling across a Reddit post that swears two things: First, you MUST have a VESA-certified Displayport for have HDMI. Second, adapters are much more stable than cables. So I bought a replacement VESA certified adapter that goes from the Displayport to a port where you can connect an HDMI cable. I sure have an extended monitor now, you know what they say. 3rd time charm. I hope I can save someone 3 tries with this review. If you want a second monitor and have a dedicated graphics card, but only have HDMI cables that suddenly need to be plugged into the Displayport, just start with a detachable adapter. https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-DisplayPort-Supports-displays-3840x2160/dp/B00S0C7QO8
