Review on Rothco Nylon Commando Wallet Black: Compact and Durable Essential for Tactical Use by Kenji Townsend

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Accessories Good deal

The wallet I received was better than I expected judging by the photo in the catalogue. I have had a nearly identical design nylon wallet that I bought from REI for almost 40 years. This wallet was quite battered and worn but still worked so I started looking for a replacement. I've had leather wallets before and have found nylon to be more durable and less bulky. REI no longer sells these wallets so I searched the internet. Many, maybe most, nylon wallets I've found online had a zipper somewhere. I wanted to avoid this because constant flexing will inevitably cause the zipper to fail, add bulk to the wallet, destroy the nylon and be a source of abrasion, and it just isn't necessary. This wallet avoids the sin of lightning. I have two criticisms: Firstly, the Velcro strap that secures the wallet when folded is not wide enough when the wallet is loaded with ID cards, credit cards and cash. It's useful but marginal. Second, the purse had velcro on the right side for what appeared to be intended as a purse. I don't carry coins in my wallet and even if I did I would expect them to stay in that slot just because the wallet is hard. The velcro added noticeably more bulk and made this compartment less functional for my use. I removed the Velcro fasteners. None of these issues are significant enough to deduct a star. I saw the objection that money falls out. Having used a wallet of the same design for 40 years, I can't say I've had any issues with it. Because the bill compartment is open on the left side, the bills are more open when the wallet is open than if only the top of the bill compartment were open, but this design makes it easier to sort and remove bills from the wallet. different separate accounts required for payment. To me, this more than outweighs any apparent unreliability of banknotes, and when the wallet is folded and in your pocket, this wallet is as secure as any. If your ego demands an expensive, designer-branded wallet, this isn't the one for you. For a simple, durable and functional wallet it looks like one of the best and I recommend it.
