Review on ๐Ÿšฒ High Mileage, Waterproof Brooks England Cambium All Weather Bike Seat - Carved/Standard Bicycle Saddle (C15, C17, C19) by Bill Snyder

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great saddle but not as wide as you might think

Very comfortable for my sit bone width. Much better than the C17 I used before. The size of my ischium (or ischial tuberosity) is about 125mm. In theory the 162mm wide C17 should be wide enough and I rode it for many years. The Cambrium Series' surface isn't flat, however, and the severe curvature means most of the width isn't used unless you're sitting on a rivet (in which case you're sitting on a rigid outer frame). Although my C17 Carved was pretty good, I wanted something wider, but Brooks hasn't released any other options yet. Fast forward to today and the Cambrium is available in both wider and narrower options. So when I bought a new bike, I bought a C19 Carved. At 184mm it must be too wide for me. However, due to the heavy flex it fits like a much smaller saddle (and the curvature also means my hips don't rub against the nose of the saddle). Looking at this I'd say you could probably sit comfortably up to a sit bone size of 140-145mm, but as this isn't my actual measurement I really can't guarantee that. What I can definitely say is that the C19 is great for my personal geometry and the ride comfort seems really dialed in. Other important points relate to the materials used. On the original Cambriums, the back of the frame (outrigger plate) is aluminum (and looks great). In the all-weather version, the gimp is made of plastic. Also, the fabric on the top used to be cotton (or presumably organic cotton), but in the all-weather version the fabric is now nylon. At least when it's new it feels a bit sticky but I hope it goes away soon. In addition, old cotton sleeves (at least older ones) tend to fade. My old C17 was a limited edition "faded denim" and has faded to a neutral canvas color in recent years. The black nylon of the all-weather cover is supposed to be lightfast. Although the Brooks website now only lists the all-weather version of the C19 Carved, the cotton-coated and aluminum versions are still available from Revain, but at a significantly higher price point than the C19 Carved model. all-weather version. If the above is important to you, there is an option.
