Review on πŸ“Έ Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary DC DN Lens for Micro 4/3: Top-notch Performance and Versatility by Leslie Matlak

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great lens and grossly underpriced

This lens sits in an interesting middle position between "Normal" and "Portrait" focal lengths. Since the 30mm lens was originally developed for APS-C format cameras, it is equivalent to a 60mm lens (35mm equivalent) on the Micro 4/3. As such it has no direct comparisons to other autofocus lenses in the Β΅4/3 catalogue, but it does come close to some of them, the most obvious of which is the Leicasonic 25mm f/1.4. Dimensions and slightly larger in focal length. The resulting narrower field of view makes it too narrow for some as a "normal" lens, but still quite usable as a portrait lens. It doesn't offer the same working distance to the subject as the 42.5-45mm portrait lenses in the catalogue, but it's a much more versatile focal length in my opinion. In addition, this lens is significantly cheaper compared to the Leicasonic 25/1.4. offer fairly similar performance. I'm sure you can find detailed technical reviews comparing objective specs like sharpness, as well as subjective reviews of things like bokeh and "rendering specificity". During my use, the lens took great photos and I never felt like I was missing out on anything from its more expensive competitor. Overall, this lens offers excellent value for money and is one of the best lenses in the Micro 4/3 catalogue. . It boasts excellent build quality, very smooth and satisfying focus ring movement, fast and quiet autofocus, excellent sharpness and bokeh, and a bright f1.4 aperture. If it were branded as one of the big local Β΅4/3 manufacturers it would almost certainly cost more - and I doubt people would complain given its high output. The only major downside to this lens is that there is already a Leicasonic 25/1.4 which is physically smaller and has the focal length that people are used to. But I think the $250 you save by buying this lens more than makes up for it.
