They should fit snugly, sizing and length appropriately. The elastic was too tight so I took it off and replaced it with new laces. My child is still uncomfortable with the thickly padded tongue pressing down on his foot even when untied. But a larger size would be too long, so I'm not sure if increasing the size would help much. His feet are not wide but are too narrow around the ball of the foot.
