Review on Ultimate Gaming Experience with MSI Rapid IPS Optix MAG301RF: High Dynamic Range, HD, LED Monitor by Jason Hall

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Two month review: great work, good price

This monitor fills a very specific niche, but it does it well. I love ultrawides but 34 is too big for me to wear comfortably every day. Also, 2560x1080 is easier to manage than 3440x1440. I have an RTX 3060ti and it's a perfect match for this monitor. Colors out of the box are a bit washed out with very little effect. I had to play around with different settings to get the bright effect I like. My device had no dead pixels and very little glare from the backlight (even at high brightness). HDR compatibility is almost a waste of time. The monitor itself doesn't get as bright, and turning it on doesn't do anything for most games. The only game I see a difference in is Doom Eternal and it absolutely makes the colors pop and pop. It really looks fantastic. My guess is that in most cases the actual game was designed that way, not the monitor itself. Fun Fact: If you create a custom resolution in the Nvdia control panel, you can get 10-bit color up to 191Hz at 2560x Activate 1080. I don't see a difference, but someone else might. 200Hz is very smooth and very responsive. Blur Busters' UFO test shows nice detail. Minimal motion blur. I hate VA panels because of the smear effect. It's really the only monitor in town with an ultra-wide 30-inch IPS 200Hz screen. The black border is there and works, but the image is too dark for my eyes due to the low brightness of the monitor. Some games look good. Some not. It's nice to have that option though. Minimal "gaming" aesthetic. Except for the RGB strip on the back, it looks like a regular monitor with a regular stand that doesn't protrude too much. You can disable the RGB strip in the settings. In the end I am very happy with the monitor and would recommend it to anyone looking for these specific features. I paid less than 300 with taxes for this and I consider it a steal. There is a lot of value here.
