We have looked through several lunch boxes (including a pair from Costco) in elementary school before finding this one. The trouble with old ones is that they inevitably wear from the inside out — linings start to tear or scrape, rough stuff gets stuck in the seams (sometimes going unnoticed for days or weeks), and they inevitably take on that distinctive, slightly soft cafeteria flavor . This "flat box" solves all these problems. It's made from durable wetsuit material, which means it's insulated and ready to be thrown in the wash, and with all sides zipped, nothing will leak out or get stuck in the seams. My son is a little germ shy (um, not sure where he got this from) so he also likes the fact that it opens into a 'napkin' for him to eat on. We wash it about every couple of weeks and just unzip it to hang on a hook and air out each night. This is the second one we bought towards the end of fourth grade. The first wore out after almost three years (one of the zippers eventually broke), but it has a pretty good track record for everyday, year-round use by kids, including summer camps. , so I feel compelled to say that I have nothing to do with this company. This is just an honest parent's opinion that I take inspiration from because I am very happy with the product.]
