In fact, if you don't have golden ears and extra cash, this is all you need. It sounds as good or even better with my Technics turntable than when using the phono input on my receiver. (A Phillips 5.1) Use good quality cables and be sure to ground this preamp to the turntable. I'm a little surprised that PYLE uses a conventional transformer instead of a switching power supply. Maybe to minimize noise? The internals are very traditional, using a single op amp and RIAA compensation circuitry in the feedback loop. The board is not SMD but a through hole. So if you want to try a different op-amp, it's easy to do. I would recommend soldering into a socket if that's the case.
