Review on Targus Pro-Tek Apple IPad (6Th / 5Th Gen) by Steven Adams

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good quality case but a bit erratic in use

Externally identical to THZ751GL and THZ753GL, only the design of the lid differs (as well as the price). They have many more reviews so you can check them out. I believe criticism is most helpful to people who decide what to get. So here are the problems I've found with it so far. - The protrusions protrude from both edges. These tabs are designed to fit slots in the cover to hold it at an angle. They are on both sides as you can rotate the case 360 degrees. IMHO they're a bit over the top as the rubbery material on the lid seems to have enough grip to hold the tablet at any angle (even without a notch in the lid). I believe they could be made much smaller without sacrificing functionality. - A little difficult to open when closed. The "notch" on the side when the lid is closed isn't very large, and it's difficult to reach with your fingertip to get past the magnetic latch. - Power/volume is difficult to control. They are recessed inside the case to avoid accidentally pressing the buttons. But I feel like they're too engrossed. There is a gap of about 2mm between the edge of the case and the buttons, which forces my fingers to wrap around the edge to press the buttons. I think it could be reduced to 1mm without significantly increasing the number of accidental key presses. - The lid has a seam in the middle. I think this is so that you can fold the lid into a triangle to hold the tablet at very shallow angles (flat enough that the bottom of the tablet protrudes beyond the bottom of the lid). It's great for that, but makes the lid flexible and supports the tablet at wide angles. No problem on the table. However, if you pick up the tablet to move it, the hinge tends to fold and the lid opens. When you're done moving it, you'll need to set it up again as if you just opened it. I'm used to placing the tablet's body at an angle and then grasping it fully to pick it up and move it around without having to drop it. - Slight flex when opening due to the 360 degree rotation (which seems to work well). , although I rarely use my tablet in portrait format) Partly due to the previous model, the case sags a lot when it is opened flat (fold the case flat behind the tablet). The magnetic closure only keeps the lid closed. It doesn't hold when open - you have to do it by hand. Due to the creases in the lid and back, the bottom tends to sag slightly off the tablet when you hold the top. When the case folds back, it feels like you're holding two things in one hand, not just a thicker tablet.- The pen holder is just an elastic band on the outside, so other flat things like books can't be folded. a tablet if you have a pen in its holder. I was hoping for a safer place, maybe in the main fold of the lid. All in all, it's still a good, sturdy case. The materials feel very nice and feel very solid (especially the corners). I just think it could be improved. Maybe some kind of ratchet in a 360 degree rotation. Something like a rotating tab to keep the cover crease from folding unless you want to crease it. And magnetic snaps on the back (as well as on the front) to keep the case folded and flat. I have to compare with a conventional folding suitcase and decide which one I want to keep.
