I strongly recommend it as a staff member on crop. For the money, you won't find a better and more versatile lens. Sharpness is better than Canon's 17-55 2.8 counterpart, more than double the price. Good assembly, hood included. Macro. Even if you don't intend to shoot bugs, you'll be pleased with the bokeh when shooting at the wide end with the aperture wide open for close subjects. A very nice picture overall. Of the minuses, of course, variable aperture. Not suitable for video shooting, for those who like to zoom right in the process of shooting. At the far end it will be quite dark indoors. Also keep in mind that when switching to a full frame, you will have to sell - in the pictures you will get hefty black rings. Well, and, like any other photographic equipment, carefully check in the store. I got lucky with my first copy.
